He began his Formula 1 career in 2019 with Toro Rosso. Midway through the season, he was promoted to Red Bull to become Max Verstappen’s new teammate. Albon remained with the Austrian team in 2020 but, like his predecessor Pierre Gasly, struggled to match Verstappen’s pace. As a result, Red Bull replaced him with Sergio Pérez for the 2021 season.
In 2021, Albon switched to GT3 racing in the DTM, but Red Bull didn’t close the F1 door on him. He returned to the grid in 2022 with Williams, where he impressed by consistently outperforming expectations in an uncompetitive car, effectively reigniting his Formula 1 career.
Albon’s standout performances in 2023 put him on the radar of several top teams, but he chose to remain loyal to Williams and extended his contract. Now, in 2025, he faces a new and formidable challenge in the form of teammate Carlos Sainz, who has arrived at Grove. With two proven drivers in the lineup, Williams is looking to climb back toward the front—and Albon will be eager to prove he belongs at the top level.
