Shanghai is served by two major airports: Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). Here are brief descriptions, including the distance from the Shanghai International Circuit.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG)

  • Location: Located about 30 kilometres east of the city centre in the Pudong district.
  • Function: Primarily serves international flights but also handles some domestic routes.
  • Transport: Connected to the city by the Shanghai Maglev Train, Metro Line 2, and various bus services.
  • Distance to Shanghai International Circuit: Approximately 60 kilometres.

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA)

  • Location: Situated closer to the city centre, about 13 kilometres west of downtown Shanghai, in the Changning district.
  • Function: Mainly handles domestic flights, with a few international routes.
  • Transport: Accessible via Metro Lines 2 and 10, as well as several bus routes and taxi services.
  • Distance to Shanghai International Circuit: Approximately 25 kilometres. Travel time is typically around 45 minutes to 1 hour by car or metro.

Both airports offer convenient access to the Shanghai International Circuit, with various transport options to suit different preferences and schedules.

Car Rental

At Shanghai International Airport, you have a variety of car rental options available from well-known companies.  

Some of the prominent car rental providers include Sixt, Avis, Enterprise and Budget. These companies offer a range of vehicles from economy models to luxury cars, ensuring options to suit different preferences and budgets.

Ride-sharing

Note that Uber is not available in China, but there are a few alternatives In China, there are several alternatives to Uber for ride-hailing services:

DiDi (滴滴出行)
The largest and most well-known ride-hailing service in China, offering a wide range of transportation options including taxis, private cars, and carpooling. DiDi also has its own mobile app (both for Apple devices and Android).

Train

If you arrive at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, the best way to get to the city is by using the Shanghai Maglev Train (one-way ticket costs around 50 CNY/7 USD).

The Shanghai Maglev Train is a high-speed magnetic levitation train that operates between Shanghai Pudong International Airport and the Longyang Road Metro Station in Shanghai (from there you can continue by metro). It is one of the fastest commercial trains in the world, reaching a maximum operational speed of 431 km/h (267 mph).

If you arrive at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, you can continue from there by metro (Lines 2 and 10).
